A Faster, More Helpful Website for Wat Pa Tam Wua

Published

Our long-term partner Web Aloha has successfully migrated the Wat Pa Tam Wua website from WordPress to Astro. All of Web Aloha’s work for the monastery website has been provided pro bono, and the team has continued to support the site for years. This latest improvement gives people in Thailand and around the world a faster, clearer and more useful way to learn about the monastery and prepare for a visit.

The website has an important practical job. Before travelling to our remote forest monastery, visitors need reliable answers: whether a booking is required, when to arrive, how long they may stay, what to bring, how the daily programme works and how to reach us safely. The new website is designed to place those answers first while making every page quick and comfortable to use.

Why we rebuilt the website

The rebuild allowed us to make the website much faster and simpler. Pages are ready to open instead of being built from scratch for every visit, helping people reach important information quickly. This is especially valuable for international travellers using a phone or slower connection, planning from another country or checking directions while already on the road.

We also used the rebuild to improve the whole experience rather than simply copy the old website into new software. We reviewed the navigation, language switching, photographs and videos, ease of use and important older links.

Excellent speed in recent tests

Recent desktop testing confirmed the improvement. On 18 August 2026, PageSpeed Insights gave the homepage a performance score of 99 out of 100, with the main content appearing in 0.9 seconds.

A separate GTmetrix desktop test from Seattle gave the site Grade A and 100% Performance, with the page fully loaded in 902 milliseconds—just under one second.

About these results: these are snapshots from controlled tests, not a promise that every visit will be identical. Actual speed can vary depending on location, device and connection. Even so, both tests confirm that the rebuilt homepage opened very quickly in the conditions measured.

Clearer answers before you travel

Speed matters most when it helps people reach trustworthy information. We expanded and reorganised the website so visitors can understand what Wat Pa Tam Wua is and arrive prepared. The site now gives clearer guidance on:

We have also added and expanded educational guides about Anapanasati, walking meditation, Vipassana and Samatha, the Thai Forest Tradition, chanting and Theravada monastic life. These resources help people prepare for their stay and continue learning wherever they live.

A better experience in four languages

Wat Pa Tam Wua welcomes people from many countries and backgrounds. The website now offers substantial experiences in English, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Thai, with localised navigation, visitor pages, frequently asked questions and a growing collection of articles. The language selector connects equivalent pages whenever a translation is available, making it easier to continue reading without starting the search again.

A smoother experience throughout

We also improved many smaller parts of the site. Photos now load at a size suited to each screen, helping them appear quickly without wasting mobile data. The homepage video waits until someone chooses to play it, and the navigation and gallery controls are clearer on phones. The site is also easier to use with a keyboard or without a mouse.

The rebuilt site also helps search engines understand each page and guide people to the right information. Important old website links now lead to the closest matching new page instead of an error.

A long-term project that continues

This website has grown through an ongoing partnership between Wat Pa Tam Wua and Web Aloha. Visitors who would like to understand how the project began, why the original website was rebuilt and how the partnership developed can read the Wat Pa Tam Wua website project history. That case study covers the wider story; the recent website rebuild is the latest chapter.

Web Aloha continues to maintain and improve the website pro bono as our needs develop. We are grateful for this long-term support and hope the rebuilt site helps every visitor find clear answers, plan responsibly and arrive at Wat Pa Tam Wua with confidence.
