Wat Pa Tam Wua is located between Pai and Mae Hong Son.

Start at Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Terminal. Use the Prempracha timetable and fares page to check and book a service to Mae Hong Son via Pai. Choose an early departure: the operator’s current through schedules to Mae Hong Son range from about six to eight hours, and Wat Pa Tam Wua is reached before the city.
Before the vehicle leaves, show the driver the name Wat Pa Tam Wua / วัดป่าถ้ำวัว and confirm that they will stop at the roadside entrance. Do not rely on the 4:00 PM deadline as your expected arrival time—leave a buffer for traffic, breaks and mountain-road conditions. Seats can sell out, so booking ahead is sensible.
Pai to Wat Pa Tam Wua
From Pai Bus Terminal, take a bus, minivan or locally arranged yellow songthaew toward Mae Hong Son. Tell the driver before boarding that you need the Wat Pa Tam Wua stop. Public vehicles normally leave you at the Highway 1095 entrance; from there, follow the monastery signs for approximately 1 km. Some local vehicles may be willing to drive farther inside—confirm this directly and agree on any fare first.
From Mae Hong Son
Take a minivan from Mae Hong Son Bus Station or arrange a yellow songthaew/local driver toward Pai. Wat Pa Tam Wua is about 37 km from Mae Hong Son town. Show the Thai name วัดป่าถ้ำวัว, confirm the stop before departure, and allow extra time if you need to walk from the highway entrance.
Why there is no fixed timetable here: transport schedules change and an old timetable image can send visitors onto the wrong departure. Check the operator’s live booking page or ask at the terminal on your travel date.
Upon arrival
Upon arriving, follow the signs to "Information", where you will be greeted by our staff. We will provide the white clothes for the duration of your stay, as well as a mattress, pillow and blankets. If you need anything else — just ask us!
Accommodation
Wat Pa Tam Wua offers small single-person kutis (huts) for men, kutis for ladies, three male dorm buildings, three female dorm buildings.
There is generally a waiting list for kutis, which are given out based on length of stay. However, people displaying a serious commitment to their practice and to the monastery will be given preference. The single-person kutis exist to provide a more private space for meditation, contemplation and Dharma study. The kutis are a privilege, not a space for chatting or a private space for misbehaviour.
Strictly no male visitors to female kutis, or female visitors to male kutis.
Before leaving
Before leaving, please clean the kuti after yourself. Return your bedding and any white clothes, then sign out of the guestbook. You need to sign and leave kuti before 9AM and you're welcome to stay for the rest of the day.
Any donations should be put into the donation box in the small Dharma Hall across the bridge.
